The ULCC History & Archives Committee opens registration to Caxton Club Members who would like to attend a live program – Discover Chicago Skyscrapers with Thomas Leslie, Jen Masengarb, and Reed Kroloff
The John Hancock Center. Marina City. Sandburg Village. The Sears Tower. The Inland Steel Building. The second period of the Chicago skyscraper transformed the way Chicagoans lived and worked and dominates many histories of the era. Yet these accounts often overlook essential Chicago sites, important areas away from downtown, the teams of people involved in the conception and construction of skyscrapers, and the financial, social, racial, and political factors that influenced the buildings that came to be.
Author/architect Thomas Leslie will talk with Jen Masengarb, Executive Director of AIA Chicago and Reed Kroloff, Dean of IIT’s College of Architecture about how the skyscraper idea, and the buildings themselves, tell a story of appearance, demography, and economy within the broad expanse of city history.
