“Paper Mysteries”

Why is 15th Century paper often in such excellent condition?  Why does paper from this period exhibit a distinct integrity and character compared to modern papers?  Learn the answers to both -- and more -- from Tim Barrett, Director of the University of Iowa Center for the Book.  Barrett, a Fulbright scholar and MacArthur fellow, will share his career-long quest to answer these questions.  His presentation will include historical specimens that attendees will be encouraged to examine and touch.

June dinner: Union League Club, 65 West Jackson Blvd. Social gathering, 5 pm; Presentation, 6 pm. Program is free but reservations are required. Dinner, $63. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED for either the Program only or the Program/Dinner combination by NO LATER THAN NOON, MONDAY, June 18. Cancellations or no shows made after that time will require payment.
